  • Sub-basin prioritization
  • Stormwater best management practice evaluation and selection
  • Detailed stormwater facility design
  • Client: Southwest Florida Water Management District
Project Brief

The Southwest Florida Water Management District identified stormwater runoff from the Weeki Wachee attraction site as a concern. KCA provided general consulting services for a multi-phased project aimed at reducing the pollutants (primarily total suspended solids, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus) discharged to the headspring and upper portion of the Weeki Wachee River. KCA developed a stormwater master plan and a non-point source pollutant loading model for the site to estimate the relative magnitude of the pollutant loads to the river and to help prioritize sub-basins for a more in-depth analysis. We also identified concept level best management practices, including pollutant load removal efficiencies and estimated costs, for each sub-basin.

The second phase of the project developed detailed design documents for select best management practices. Plans and specifications were developed that will reduce the amount of sediment discharged into the headspring. A piping system will convey stormwater discharge from the attraction parking lot into a new treatment pond located away from the headspring. The project was designed to minimize disruption to the attraction operations.
